Support Us

Thank you for supporting the Department of Linguistics and its many programs and students.

The department sadly lost Jiahui Huang, a beloved PhD student and undergraduate advisor, during Summer 2021. The Jiahui Huang Memorial Fund supports the Jiahui Huang Memorial Bench and students in Linguistics.

To support other programs and fellowships, please use the Find Funds form below.

Friends of Linguistics provides the funds to invite outside speakers to our colloquia, sponsor conferences and develop graduate workshops, among other things. For example, $25 sponsors a colloquium, $100 provides an honorarium for a guest lecturer, and $100,000 endows a graduate fellowship. Please help us by giving a little or a lot.

Major gifts such as the Nostrand Professorship can at once honor a special purpose and provide graduate fellowships, faculty benefits or targeted aid for a specific recipient such as the Linguistic Phonetics Lab, Sociolinguistics Lab, or the ASL Program.

Does your employer match volunteer hours with donations through Benevity? If you volunteer and would like the match to be directed to Linguistics, please include a comment in Benevity that your match should be directed to UW Foundation/Linguistics and email linguw@uw.edu with the name of your employer so we can get the funds properly directed on the UW’s end. Any matched funds will be directed to the Friends of Linguistics Fund and used wherever they are most needed.

Finally, our support for graduate students continues to grow with the Endowed Graduate Fellowship, the Ryan Cross Neale, the Herschensohn, and Phelps Endowments, to the extent that we have been able to provide quarterly stipends for several Graduate Excellence in Linguistics Research award recipients.
