On Saturday, the 15th of October, UW hosted the 20-year celebration of our CLMA/CLMS program at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House.
This hybrid event, much like the graduate program it represents, was hosted with a speech by Emily Bender. There was then much time for talking with alumni from 2025's cohort, all the way back to our first cohort's graduated class. For in person attendees, there were drawing stations and board games, food and refreshments, and a photo booth stocked with spooky costumes. For the online attendees, there were multiple break-out rooms open to draw, network, and connect with other UW alumni. Cupcakes were provided with edible paper printouts of our Comp Ling faculty!
At the end of the event, from our 100+ attendees, 4 winners were announced between a Kahoot leaderboard, and a scavenger hunt to receive husky plushies, selected to promote our school spirt.
Despite the rain, the game day chaos, and the bustling campus filled from UW Family Weekend, this event was a big success, and we can't wait to celebrate future milestones with our Computational Linguistics Department!
If you would like to support this program, see the Computational Linguistics Drive below. We are currently hosting a campaign that will run until the end of the year to see if we can get 20 donations for the CLMA fund and 200 donations for the CLMS fund.
