Sara Ng graduated with a PhD in Linguistics in 2024, and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Linguistics Department at Western Washington University. The Linguistics Department at Western was founded in 2019 and has grown to a thriving department with about 150 major and minor undergraduate students (about 100 of which Sara gets to teach right away!). Sara is teaching courses in phonetics, empirical analysis, and computational linguistics -- all of which are skills she honed as a Ph.D. student at UW.
In her own words: "I’m excited to be teaching to a new cohort of students, and also to help develop the computational linguistics curriculum in the linguistics department. In addition, I will be continuing some research I started at UW, looking at the phonetic and prosodic encoding of language in speech recognition systems. I am also very excited to start some new work with scholars up here, documenting the linguistic backgrounds of speakers in historic Whatcom county."
