Alec Sugar is awarded Confucius Institute Scholarship to study at Fudan University in China

Alec Sugar, a graduate student in Linguistics, has been awarded the Confucius Institute Scholarship to study from spring to autumn of 2016 at Fudan University in Shanghai. According to the fellowship grantees' website, Alec's research will focus on "The syntax of how Mandarin Chinese verbs are borrowed into Northwest Chinese minority languages" and will investigate "which auxiliary verbs of the target language combine with verbs borrowed from Chinese, and what inflection patterns are possible with the borrowed verbs."
