Congratulations Graduates!

On June 12, 2026 we celebrated our newest graduates of the Department of Linguistics, Computational Linguistics and American Sign Language programs. Among the group of graduates were 66 Linguistics undergraduate students, 9 students in the American Sign Language minor, 35 Computational Linguistics Master of Science students and 4 PhD in Linguistics students. Family, friends, and faculty attended the ceremony in Guggenheim Hall. The commencement speech was given by former PhD graduate Valerie Freeman (2015), an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Oklahoma State University. In her speech she very wisely reminded everyone what it means to be a linguist: “It means you studied what makes us human. You have a responsibility to the people whose language you work with. You are exactly what the world needs right now. And you can’t help but keep learning and growing for the rest of your career.”
