At the end of August 2025, six members of the SocioLinx team (Alicia Wassink, Ty Gill-Saucier, Flo Humbert, Amina Venton, Chase Fossen, and Devyn Brandt) traveled to Tucson, Arizona to collect data for the Bias in ASR project. Tucson is the homeland of the Tohono O’odham and has a strong presence of the Pascua Yaqui tribes, which some team members had the chance to learn more about during a visit to the Arizona tribal annex. With the invaluable help from THE Dr. Heidi Harley, the team successfully reached their goal of 25 interviews, gathering insights into Native American and American Indigenous user experiences with ASR technologies. Beyond the research, they also took time to explore the area, connect with colleagues, learn about the region’s rich tribal histories, and enjoy the local food scene.
