In 2022-2023 the department awarded 53 Bachelor of Arts degrees, 42 Master of Science degrees and 1 Doctor of Philosophy degree.  Congratulations to all of our graduates! We were delighted to celebrate your successes during our June commencement ceremony.

We were also delighted to welcome back Chia-Hui Huang (2003 PhD) as our commencement speaker. Chia-Hui distinguished herself both in academia, during her time at the University of Washington and the University of Pittsburgh, and in her professional work for Seattle-area tech companies. As a graduate student in Linguistics, Chia-Hui received the highly competitive Excellence in Teaching Award and a Humanities Dissertation Fellowship to complete her dissertation titled ‘A restructuring of case theory: Evidence from s-selected case’  under Karen Zagona’s supervision. Chia-Hui taught at the University of Pittsburgh for five years before returning to Seattle, where she worked at Appen Butler Hill as a Senior Linguistic Program Manager, and at Amazon, where she held progressively more important positions such as International Senior Program Manager. In 2021, she joined Life 360, a start-up specializing in family-based communication technology, where she serves as Principal International Product Manager.

Chia-Hui highlighted her professional expertise and teaching experience in an inspiring commencement speech that encouraged our graduates to use all the skills they had gained as linguistics students to build a career.
